Fuji city

Mount Fuji and "Tagonoura Shirasu"

Fuji City is the only city with both Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, and Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan. The "Mt. Fuji Climbing Route 3776", which aims to reach the summit of Mt. Fuji from sea level, is also attracting attention. The spring water of Mt. Fuji has developed industries such as paper manufacturing, and the "Night View Train" of the Gakunan Railway, which runs through the industrial area at night, is also popular. Shirasu and tea, which have been nurtured by the rich nature, are excellent products that are proudly proud of throughout the country. If you want to try them, feel free to take the Shinkansen or drive. Easy access is also an attractive feature. Let's go on a trip to "Fuji City, the beginning of the journey to the top".

Tagonoura Port, which opened in 1961, is located at the innermost part of Suruga Bay, where the rich nutrients from Mt. Fuji flow in, and is popular as the port closest to Mt. Fuji, a World Heritage Site. The Tagonoura Shirasu (whitebait) landed here is beautifully transparent and characterized by its freshness and firm texture. It is also registered under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System.

The secret to its deliciousness is that the nets are pulled up in a short time using the traditional "one boat drag" fishing method, and then immediately frozen on board to remove excess moisture. You can enjoy the extremely fresh Tagonoura shirasu at the Tagonoura Port Fishery Cooperative Dining Hall, which is open in the port only during lunchtime from April to December. Enjoy it along with the gorgeous view of Mt. Fuji and the port.
