Hamamatsu city
Lake Hamana and eel

Hamamatsu City is where Tokugawa Ieyasu built the foundations for unifying Japan in his youth. It is also a "town of manufacturing" with a strong spirit of adventure and a culture of entrepreneurship, and many world-famous companies have been born in Hamamatsu, with industries such as textiles, musical instruments, and motorcycles clustered here. The city is blessed with diverse natural beauty, including the beautiful forests of Tenryu to the north, the Enshu Nada Sea to the south, Lake Hamana to the west, and the Tenryu River to the east. The city is blessed with some of the best hours of sunshine in the country, and a warm climate, which allows it to produce an abundance of agricultural products and seafood. Tourist attractions full of history and natural charm, such as Hamamatsu Castle, known as the castle of success, Nakatajima Sand Dunes, and Kanzanji Onsen, are popular with a wide range of generations.

Hamamatsu is the birthplace of eel farming, with a history dating back over 100 years since the Meiji era. The warm climate of Lake Hamana and natural water pumped up from underground provide an ideal environment for eels. There are over 100 eel specialty restaurants in the city, and as the city is located almost halfway between Osaka and Tokyo, you can enjoy a mix of Kansai-style and Kanto-style grilling methods, both of which can be enjoyed.

The Lake Hamana Fisheries Cooperative was established with the goal of promoting and developing the aquaculture industry in the Lake Hamana area, and to provide safe, secure and delicious eels, we only use eels raised by our members. Our skilled craftsmen carefully cut the eels, carefully adjust the heat to suit the condition of the eels, and grill them in the Kanto style. Please enjoy the soft and plump unagi and the fragrant kabayaki.
